In this day and age the majority of us, when we get paid just spend spend spend, and why not? The majority of us work 40 hours a week on average and why shouldn’t we indulge in what makes us happy! But when we indulge it’s normally on nights out, weekends away, shoes, bags, new wardrobe items etc, the list goes on. For me I have learnt a very important way of using my money wisely to ensure I make the most of what I earn! Check out my other posts (coming soon) about how I do that! But the question is how many of you invest in something that is such a pivotal part of who we are? Our skin.
Your skin is what everyone sees all the time! It’s a massive part of who we are. I have come to terms with my skin type, what causes my breakouts, how to fight them and what products I should be using so I feel comfortable in the skin I am in. After all glowing skin is always in. It’s always fashionable. Demi Moore hit the nail on the head when she said, “I am a big believer in that if you focus on good skincare, you won’t really need a lot of makeup.”
Most days I’m able to not put any makeup on whatsoever and the only time I tend to really is when I’m going “out out” or out for dinner! The rest of the time i am clean faced and have glowing skin and I love the fact my confidence has grown as a result of good skincare.
1) Long term damage? No thank you
Every skincare routine should be bared towards prevention, what’s the point of investing in anything skin related if you don’t prevent yourself from having long term damage to the skin whether it be scarring or sun damage or anything.
Many high quality products point towards preventing long term damage to the skin. My favourite is Exfoliant Scrub. Firstly it’s an aloe Vera base, and we all know aloe Vera is a small piece of heaven for the skin, it contains 2 hormones that are vital for the skin. The first being Auxin and the second being Gibberellins. These have healing and anti inflammatory properties and it has been known to be used in certain types of medicine to heal ezchema and psoriasis and acne. This scrub guards moisture levels ensuring that they always stay where they should be and helps improve the way your skin retains moisture. You are less likely to get pimples and blemishes with regular use because your pores won’t be blocked by dead skin cells any longer.

Regular use of sunblock that is factor 50 or above goes a long long way too. Sun is a killer for the skin, yes it gives us beautiful tans most of the time but generally it does harm our skin more than we know. And it’s not all about using sunblock once and never reapplying, every 3 hours or so it should be topped up to ensure our skin stays looking the best it possibly can and prevents damage from occurring.
2) It can save you money
Investing in skincare saves you money in the long run. Yeah sure it can be expensive first when you choose the right products for your skin and at high quality prices but when the products work, and you can see the results before your eyes, the results will be longer lasting. Therefore no need to spend most of your pay check every month trying every product under the sun to help you. Feeling confident in your own skin because of your results will mean that of course you may not feel the need to wear makeup as often, then not running out as often and then of course, not having to top up your makeup collection as often.
High street brands may seem good at first but very often you find that there are very little positive active ingredients in them, meaning they are filled with things such as alcohol and fillers which are awful for your skin. Investing in high quality professional range, though it sounds daunting is the best thing you can do. Of course do your research but trust me your skin will thank you.
3) Professional treatments are expensive
There are many at home equivalents to Spa treatments these days. I’m sure all of us would go and get a weekly facial, a monthly chemical peel and microdermabrasion at least every fortnight. But number one, how many of you have the time? And number two, how many of you can actually afford these costly treatments regularly enough to keep up the phenomenal results you can get? Answer? Not many I’m guessing.
I am absolutely in love with Nuskin’s AHA chemical peel and polishing peel. Especially as I’m in my 20’s and breakouts are still an issue for me, and I am starting to notice fine lines appearing. The chemical peel is a light peel that uses alphahydroxy to remove the top layer of the skin. It chemically exfoliates and resurfaces, promotes cell renewal as well as reducing acne, scarring and pigmentation. On top of that, you receive 18 treatments for the price of near enough one professional chemical treatment at a salon or spa! Which works out to 94% discount using an at home alternative than it does going out and getting one of these pricey treatments. So much better for everyday results in my opinion! The polishing peel is the equivalent to a microdermabrasion. It instantly resurfaces and polishes the skin for a healthy glow and helps give you a more youthful looking complexion, again is such a massive discount for a multiuse bottle of polishing peel instead of leaving the house and having a clinical treatment.

4) It helps you choose your makeup more wisely
Firstly my main number one rule of thumb for absolutely anyone that is even considering purchasing products to help their skin is to know what type of skin you have, whether it’s oily, dry or combination, even if it is knowing things like my nose gets dry when it’s warm, and silly things like that. Knowing exactly what your skin does means you can learn exactly how to treat it.
By targeting the exact problems of your skin it means that not only can you improve the overal health of the skin but you can choose makeup based on this knowledge. For example, if you have oily skin, then why would you purchase a foundation that is oil based? Wouldn’t it just make it worse and clog your pores? Yes it would. So by simply knowing that your skin is oily, means you know you shouldn’t buy an oil based foundation, it means you can purchase a water based one that doesn’t clog pores and is overall better for your skin anyway.
You wouldn’t put diseal in a petrol car or feed dog food to your hamster?
So why put products on your skin that a. You don’t need. And b. Will make your skin worse?
Once you are aware of your skin type you have then look into researching what is the best things for your skin. One of my favourite high end beauty devices is the Lumispa. It’s one device, that you use for 2 minutes and it gives you 7 skin benefiting properties. It has a gel you use and their are a range of different ones for oily, dry and combination skin meaning everyone can get exactly what they need for them. You just apply the gel, use the Lumispa all over your face and voila! Amazing skin that helps and doesn’t hinder. (It even takes of a full face of makeup by its self! None of those baby wipes needed!)

5) Reduces the amount of make up you NEED
Now don’t get it twisted I LOVE makeup. I am a makeup junkie. The feeling when you open a new palette or use a new powder for the first time is heavenly. But makeup should be a choice, you should feel tied down with makeup and have to feel like you need it!
I know so many of you feel self conscious when you don’t wear makeup. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could pop down to the shops without the normal routine of eye makeup, contouring, and the difficult task of choices a lip product. Well the first and formost thing we should ALL be doing is looking after our skin in the first place! Not just focusing on covering up. So when we actually decide to wear makeup it glides on like a dream first time and then you don’t need nearly as much as you would otherwise. Makeup becomes a choice not a necessity. With that comes freedom.
6) cheaper vs more costly
Price differences are an always talked about subject. Whether it comes to where you are buying your Christmas shop, Marks and Spencer’s or Tesco, or how you will be flying EasyJet or British Airways.
This is always such a decision for most people. You can always get an amazing tasting Christmas shop from Tesco at better prices but is the quality of Marks and Spencer's food better?
I wont tell you which one is better but when it comes to skincare, what I do know is that some high street brands do pump their products with alcohol and fillers to save money for them because they aren't putting as much of the active working ingredient in there. The rest of the money saved is then used on advertising and celebrity endorsements usually which then means that they can sell a lot more of the product at a cheaper price.
It works for those companies and can sometimes work for the customers and that's great if you would like to go ahead and choose these products and brands. Personally for me I would rather do some research into the company, their ingredients and make an informed decision to perhaps spend a little bit more to ensure my skin is always looking its best. After all, it is the difference demonstrated.
Its time to free your skin.
